Dehradun: After heavy rains in Dehradun and Mussoorie on Wednesday evening, Uttarakhand’s most of the districts are again on a yellow alert for rains, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning on Thursday in most of the areas. IMD also issued a warning as there is a possibility of landslides in sensitive areas and people are advised not to move during rains.
Dehradun witnessed heavy rainfall and waterlogging
In Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun, the morning was sunny with no cloudy sky but weather changed in Dehradun late in the evening as the evening approached, heavy rain started in the capital Dehradun and the queen of mountains Mussoorie. Due to heavy rain, there was waterlogging at many places on the roads of the capital.
Life was disrupted in Mussoorie amid intense rainfall
There have been recent landslides in various parts of Mussoorie due to heavy rain, causing disruptions and traffic jams. Heavy rains lashed Mussoorie, the “Queen of Mountains” over the past two months. Unfortunately, public life was disrupted as drains overflowed, inundating city roads due to this downpour. The sudden temperature drop accompanied the rain, and a mild chill returned to the weather.
A yellow alert in eleven districts except Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar
At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert on Thursday for heavy rain in eleven districts including Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Bageshwar. Light to moderate rains are predicted in various parts of these districts. Pilgrims and tourists are advised to take precaution while travelling in the hills.
175 roads closed in the state, two-foot bridges also blocked
A total of 175 roads are closed in the state due to rain and landslides. This includes national highways, state highways and rural motor roads. Apart from this, traffic is also closed on two foot bridges in Rudraprayag district. The most number of roads are closed in Chamoli district, where one state highway, another district road and 25 rural motor roads are closed.
