Dehradun: The heavy downpour continues from the mountains to the plains in Uttarakhand, but now the spell of heavy rains has slowed down. On thursday afternoon, most areas including Dehradun have experienced bright sunshine and the heat has also increased due to the increase in maximum temperature. Now, a yellow alert has been sounded for six districts with prediction of light to moderate rainfall on Friday.
A yellow alert for heavy rains in six districts
Along with Uttarakhand capital Dehradun, six districts have been kept on a yellow alert like Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Tehri and Nainital. Light to moderate rains are possible in these districts at most of the places. Rest districts Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Bageshwar and Almora are expected to see no rains on Friday as there is no alert for rains and landslides in these districts.
Mercury soared in most parts of Dehradun
In Dehradun, the sun blazed relentlessly on Thursday afternoon after incessant downpour in the morning. As the mercury soared in most areas, discomfort prevailed. However, the evening brought a change as heavy rain graced some places, causing the temperature to drop. Remarkably, this weather pattern has persisted for the past three days.
People are advised to take precaution
The districts, which are still under a yellow alert for rains, can see rockfall and mudslides at many places. Moreover, periods of rain can lead to flooding and a sudden rise in the water levels of rivulets, potentially causing bank erosion, overflow, and flash floods. For safety, residents in landslide-prone areas should remain vigilant. Pilgrims and tourists traveling to Char Dham or other destinations in the state should stay alert and monitor steep slopes during their journey.

Heavy rains and landslides blocked 186 roads across the state due to debris falling in several areas. Despite the All-weather Road being severely affected by frequent landslides, the number of pilgrims has increased over the past three days. Badrinath saw 1450 pilgrims, Kedarnath had 631, Gangotri welcomed 1213, and 677 pilgrims visited the Yamunotri shrine.
