Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand is set to change once again, with the Meteorological Department predicting snowfall in several hilly districts. Between January 16 and January 17, districts such as Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar are expected to experience snowfall, prompting the issuance of an alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Meanwhile, light rain is anticipated in the plains, while snowfall is forecasted for high-altitude regions. Consequently, the weather will become colder, prompting authorities to advise people to take extra precautions.
Anticipated weather changes in plains and hills
The upcoming weather changes will have varying impacts on the plains and hilly areas of Uttarakhand. While the plains might see light rain, the higher altitude regions are bracing for snowfall. This shift in weather will make the already cold temperatures drop further, and residents are being advised to take extra precautions.
Snowfall predictions by regional meteorological center
Director of the meteorological center in Dehradun, Dr. Bikram Singh, has indicated that snowfall and rain are expected in high-altitude areas on January 16 and 17. He stated that snowfall is likely in regions with altitudes exceeding 3,000 meters, specifically in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar. Between January 16 and 20, these areas may witness significant snowfall, increasing the cold conditions.
Dense fog in the plains
Meanwhile, dense fog is anticipated in the plain districts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for these regions, warning that visibility may be significantly reduced in the mornings and nights, potentially affecting road traffic. People traveling in these areas are advised to be cautious.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant
The Meteorological Department has urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly in regions where snowfall and rain are expected. The temperature across the state is continuously falling, which could intensify the cold. Experts have noted that the minimum temperature in many parts of Uttarakhand is already below normal and may decrease further in the coming days.
Special advice from the administration for tourists
The expected snowfall is drawing a large number of tourists to the high-altitude areas. The administration has emphasized the importance of staying updated on weather forecasts and adhering to safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. With the likelihood of further weather changes, it is crucial for everyone to stay alert and follow the advice issued by the authorities.
