Dehradun: After a dry spell in the last few days, the Indian Meteorological department, Dehradun, again sounded a yellow alert for heavy rains on 25 and 26 September. According to the IMD, the monsoon will depart after 30 September in the state. Otherwise, weather is to remain dry on Tuesday across the state.
Due to the dry weather, temperatures are rising, leading to humid heat. On September 25 and 26, light to moderate rain is expected in most districts of the state, except for Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. After this period, the weather is expected to remain normal until September 30, with occasional rain in some hilly districts.
Weather is to remain dry on 24 September
The weather is predicted to stay dry on September 24. According to Meteorological Department Director Vikram Singh, rain activity has been minimal in the state. Over the past 4 to 5 days, only isolated rain has been observed in some districts. The weather is expected to remain dry in most districts on September 23 and 24 as well. Moreover, rise in temperature and increased humidity caused trouble for the people in the state in the last few days.
Monsoon’s departure on 30 September
Meteorological Department Director Bikram Singh announced that the monsoon is expected to start withdrawing from West Rajasthan today. Typically, it takes about a week for the monsoon to retreat from the Himalayan states after leaving Rajasthan. Although rainfall activity has decreased in the state since September 14 and 15, the official departure of the monsoon in Uttarakhand is anticipated after September 30.

In other news, the Joshimath-Malari highway in Chamoli district has been closed due to a large boulder falling from a hill near Lata, affecting around 17 villages. Many major routes in Uttarakhand were previously closed due to landslides and falling boulders, but dozens have been reopened, and efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining blocked routes. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working to repair the highway.
