Dehradun: Following the Meteorological Department’s red and yellow alerts, Uttarakhand experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall for three to four consecutive days, disrupting life from the mountains to the plains. However, IMD brings some relief as the forecast predicts a clear weather for most parts of the state today.
The Meteorological Department forecasts light to moderate rain in parts of several districts, including Dehradun, Nainital, and Pithoragarh. Additionally, light showers accompanied by thunder are expected in other districts across the state.
Kedarnath pilgrimage disrupted amid poor weather
Excessive rains also affected the Kedarnath yatra in Uttarakhand as around 7360 pilgrims had to return to Sonprayag who were staying in Gaurikund for further trekking. Along with this, Helicopter services have also been suspended due to heavy rain and dense fog in the Kedar Valley. Snowfall in higher reaches of Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines has also added to the woes by increasing the cold.
Weather remained dry on 14 and 15 September
Notably, as per the forecast made by IMD for red and yellow alerts across the state, heavy to very heavy rains occurred in Uttarakhand from 11-12 September, whereas on 14 and 15 September, the weather remained dry in many districts including the capital Dehradun. The bright sunshine has led to a rise in temperature. Over the past two days, the maximum temperature has also increased across the state.
A rise in Maximum temperature in last two days
According to the Meteorological Department’s report, on Sunday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 24.8°C and a minimum of 21.7°C. In Pantnagar, the maximum temperature was 24.6°C, with a minimum of 24.1°C. New Tehri experienced a maximum of 16.8°C and a minimum of 14.2°C, while Mukteshwar saw a maximum of 15.4°C and a minimum of 13.2°C.
Pilgrim footfall in Char Dham shrines
On Saturday, 2413 pilgrims visited Badrinath shrine, whereas, Kedarnath shrine witnessed a low count as only 282 pilgrims could reach the shrine amid poor weather. 3294 pilgrims reached Gangotri and Yamunotri saw 2724.
