Dehradun: Two days ahead of the Urban Local Bodies’ (ULB) elections, the State Election Commission has completed its preparation. More than 30.29 lakh voters will cast their votes to decide the fate of candidates in the elections for 100 local bodies.
Dehradun district has the highest number of 9.98 lakh voters. The ULB elections will be held across the state on January 23. The counting of votes will take place on January 25.
Ballot papers delivered to all districts
The State Election Commission has delivered ballot papers in all the 13 districts. The district election officers have been asked to arrange the kits, ballot boxes and other required articles provided to the polling parties by the State Election Commission.
Colours of ballot papers for Mayor, Chairman, and Councillor
The Commission has selected colours for the ballot papers for different urban local bodies. While the colour of ballot papers for the mayoral posts will be of blue, green will be the colour of ballot papers for the post of chairman of municipalities. The ballot papers, which will be used for the election of chairman of Nagar Panchayats, will be in pink colour. While will be the colour of the ballot papers for the councillor and members.
Necessary instructions to district election officers
The State Election Commission has given necessary instructions to the district election officers and SPs for making logistic arrangements, proper accommodations of polling parties, and inspection of polling centres by the sector and zonal magistrates, besides keeping reserve fuel for the vehicles to be used in the election duties.
Campaigning to end at 5 pm on January 21
The campaigning will come to an end at 5 pm on January 21. After this, the candidates, who are in the fray for ULB election, may go for the door-to-door campaign. In the meantime, all the parties, including the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, have intensified their election campaigns. Apart from chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, all the prominent faces of the BJP and the Congress are campaigning in the ULB elections. Liquor shops will remain closed on the day of polling.
