Dehradun: The ruling BJP is set to start its second phase of campaign for the urban local bodies’ (ULB) elections from January 11. In its second phase of election campaign, the BJP will organize meetings of its prominent faces, including the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and state unit chief Mahendra Bhatt, who is Rajya Sabha member, to seek voters’ support for the party’s official nominees.
The party is under plan to hold street meetings, road shows and public meetings of its top leaders during the second phase of the election campaign.
CM Dhami to lead the party’s second phase of campaign
The party has been giving focus on the door-to-door campaign in the ongoing first phase of the election campaign for the urban local bodies’ elections. The party’s second phase of election campaign will be led by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who is expected to address more than two dozen public meetings. The party’s state unit president Bhatt, the ministers of the state government, and the start campaigners will actively participate in the second phase of the election campaign through their different programmes.
BJP keeps eye on migrant voters
The BJP has also kept its eye on the migrant voters whose names figure in the voters’ list of the urban local bodies’ elections. The party’s state headquarters have asked its all the election management committees, which functions at the level of every local body, to consult all such voters and woo them to support the BJP’s official nominees in these elections.
Congress appointed observers for ULB polls
On the contrary, the opposition Congress has also started appointing its senior leaders as observers in both the regions- Garhwal and Kumaon. The observers will coordinate with the party’s official candidates. The party has also worked out its strategies to ensure an aggressive election campaign. The party is focussing on the local issues to woo the voters. A control room has been set up on the premises of Pradesh Congress Committee’s headquarters in Dehradun. Congress party’s senior leader Awadhesh Pant will be in-charge of the control room.
