Dehradun: Uttarakhand, a leading state in cultivating aroma plants, is going to establish its first perfume laboratory at the cost of three crores and this lab will also check the quality of perfumes prepared with the aromatic plants grown in Uttarakhand.
A modern laboratory is being built at a cost of three crores
The fragrance of the aromatic plants will reach every part of the world. Uttarakhand’s aromatic plant centre is preparing a perfume development laboratory in Selaqui at the cost of three crores. Along with checking the quality of the perfume, the fragrance will be tested on standards in this laboratory. So far, private perfume companies have maintained their own laboratories. However, there has been no government facility to test the quality and fragrance of perfumes. The Aromatic Plant Center asserts that Uttarakhand is now home to the country’s first such lab.
Perfume Creation Lab built at a cost of 40 crores
In 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Perfume Creation Lab at the Aromatic Plant Center (CAP) in Selaqui, an initiative costing 40 crores. This lab focuses on researching the use of oils extracted from various aromatic plants in different products. CAP is promoting a variety of aromatic species, including Timur, Damask rose, lemongrass, tejpat, chamomile, Japanese mint, forest basil, surai, kunja, and kalabasa. The oils from these plants are utilized in perfumes and other cosmetic products.

During the Global Investors Summit in December 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the perfume prepared from naturally grown Timur seeds. Director, Aromatic Plant Center, Nripendra Singh Chauhan, said that the upcoming perfume development laboratory will promote the aroma industry in the state along with providing employment to skilled human resources.” In Uttarakhand, the annual turnover of aroma and its products is Rs 100 crore. Getting boosts up from promotion of aroma products and cultivation by the state government, this business is increasing every year.
24 thousand farmers are associated with aromatic plant cultivation
Presently, around 24,000 farmers are involved in cultivation of aromatic plants in Uttarakhand. They have been continuously encouraged by the Aromatic Plant Centre (CAP). This centre CAP is preparing aroma plants and providing them free of cost to the farmers. Additionally, special training is also being given to farmers for aroma cultivation by CAP. In the cosmetics and food industry, the demand for aromatic products is increasing day by day.
