Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has taken a sudden turn, bringing an increase in cold temperatures due to rain and snowfall. For the past few days, the weather had been continuously dry, causing daytime heat.
However, today, Tuesday, clouds have covered the sky since morning, bringing a change in weather conditions. Gangotri shrine experienced its first snowfall of February today.

Snowfall and rainfall in various regions
In many mountainous areas, snowfall has been reported, adding to the chill. Gangotri Dham experienced its first snowfall of February today. Drizzle continues in several districts, and snowfall is also expected in Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath. The lower areas have been experiencing increased cold due to cloud cover since morning.
Light drizzle in Dehradun and Mussoorie
In Dehradun and hill station Mussoorie, there is light drizzle accompanied by strong winds. The temperature has dropped due to the dense clouds and light drizzle. Chamoli Karnaprayag saw a change in weather since Monday night, with light rain continuing since this morning. High-altitude areas are likely to receive snowfall. Rain and snowfall have been reported in many places in Kumaon as well, including light rain in the high-altitude areas of Bageshwar district and Pindar valley.

Pandit Rajesh Semwal from Gangotri Dham reported that it has been snowing in the Dham since morning, resulting in extreme cold. The weather department had forecasted light rain in the hill districts of the state for Tuesday. Rainfall is expected in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar districts. A yellow alert has been issued for lightning in areas such as Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri, Haridwar, Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar.

According to meteorologist Rohit Thapliyal, the activation of a western disturbance is causing the rain in the state, which started on the night of February 3. On February 4, there may be snowfall above 3000 meters in the high Himalayan region. Additionally, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning in the lower areas. Light rain is expected in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital. The weather is expected to remain unsettled in the state on February 5, but it is expected to be dry after February 6.
