Dehradun: The state government may create two separate cadres- Kumaon and Garhwal- for the employees of the health and medical education department.
If two separate cadres for the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions come into existence, it will be helpful for the doctors, nursing, and paramedical staff, posted in different hospitals and medical colleges, to get their posting near their native places.
Employee show reluctance to get posting in hills
Currently, the employees show reluctance in serving the hill parts away far from their native places. The natives of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions will be posted in their divisions concerned in case of the creation of the two separate cadres. However, the government has so far not taken any decision in this regard.
A tough task for the state government to improve health facilities in the hills
The state government faces a tough task to remove deficiency and improve facilities in the hospitals and medical colleges. A committee was also constituted to examine the problems which hospitals and medical colleges face. The committee made several suggestions, including creation of two separate cadres for the employees of the health and medical education department. The government also considers posting the employees of two divisions- Kumaon and Garhwal- in their divisions concerned.
Postings in “Sugam” and “Durgam” areas
The major problem with the health and medical education department is growing reluctance among the employees and doctors to accept the postings in the hill parts. The Uttarakhand government has divided the state into two categories- “Sugam” (easy) and “Durgam” (tough). The employees are supposed to serve the “Durgam” areas during their career. However, doctors avoid going to hills. Most of them even preferred to resign from their service. The same is the story with the nursing staff.
In the hill parts, it is always a major challenge for the state government to ensure proper medical facilities. The absence of proper medical facilities in the primary health centres and the community health centres in the hill parts.
