Dehradun: The Inner Line Permit, which is currently required to visit the Indo-China border in the state’s Chamoli district including Rimkhim and Niti passes, will soon be made available online. Chamoli district is set to launch a website enabling applicants to request for online approval for the Inner Line Permit.
As per the existing system, applicants are supposed to visit the office of Sub-divisional magistrate in Joshimath in Chamoli district to submit the required documents. Applicants stay in Joshimath for a few days to complete the formalities.
Delay in the approval to visit tourist spots on Indo-China border
The delay in getting approval for the Inner Line Permit is a source of trouble for the applicants. To obtain permission, applicants will be required to submit a health certificate and police report after the launch of the website. Information regarding weather and condition of roads will be available on the website.
Natural beauty of the tourist spots on Indo-China border
The applicants sometimes abandon their plan to visit tourist spots on the Indo-China border. If the online facility for the completion of process for obtaining Inner Line Permit is available, it may further increase interest of tourists in the areas like Ghastoli, Rattakona, Jagraon, Devtal, Mana Pass, Gotting, Gyal Dung, Upper Rimkhim, Lower Rimkhim and Parvati Kund. The natural beauty of these places attracts tourists.
Joshimath SDM has several assignments
Under the current system, the authority for the approval of Inner Line Permit is SDM, Joshimath. Since Chamoli district houses two important shrines- Badrinath and Kedarnath, the SDM has several jobs, including attending the VIPs. Several VIPs visit Badrinath and Kedaranth shrines during the Yatra season. If SDM is on VIP duty or other key assignments, applicants are left with no other option but to wait for the return of SDM. So, the launch of a website may help the applicants to get online approval for their visits to such areas.
Wait for the launch of the website
The launch of the website depends on weather conditions. Currently, there is extreme cold in Chamoli district and thus, the administration is waiting for improvement in the weather condition to launch the website.
