Dehradun: Uttarakhand government aims to develop the Solar power plants as a major source of its income. The government has now kept its eye on the income the state power corporation will receive from the surplus electricity generated by the solar power plants being installed on the floors of government buildings. The Corporation will deposit the income from surplus electricity generation to the government treasury in future.
The Corporation is likely to enter into an agreement with various departments of the state government. The solar power plants, which are currently installed on the floor of 305 government buildings, generate 9-Megawatt solar power. The target is set as production of 60-Megawatt solar power by the end of the year 2026.
The centre and state governments promote solar power
The centre as well as the state governments have been promoting solar power and the subsidy in form of the financial help is made available for the installation of solar power plants in both the sectors- the private as well as the government. The government has also made the installation of solar power plants on the roof of government buildings mandatory. The cost to be incurred for the installation of solar power plants is also linked with the construction cost of the government buildings.
1965 government buildings to be covered by solar power plants in the year 2024-25
Apart from the solar power plants installed on the floor of 307 government buildings, there is a proposal to install solar power plants on the roof of 1965 government buildings in the year 2024-25. In the current financial year, the state government has allocated Rs 100 crore in its budget.
Enthusiasm among people over ““PM Surya Ghar Yojana” in Uttarakhand
Meanwhile, people in Uttarakhand are showing enthusiasm to get the benefits from the centre’s scheme “PM Surya Ghar Yojana”. Under this scheme, more than 7500 people have got installed solar power plants on the roof of their houses across the state. The centre launched the “PM Surya Ghar Yojana” on February 13, 2024. The government aims to see installation of solar power plants on the roof of around 40,000 houses under this scheme by the end of 2027.
