Dehradun: As Uttarakhand gears up for the New Year-2025 and the winter Char Dham yatra, the state government has issued detailed guidelines to ensure the safety, smooth traffic management, and law and order for devotees and tourists.
V. Murugeshan, Additional Director General of Police (Crime and Law and Order, Uttarakhand), has directed IG Garhwal and DIG Kumaon Range, along with all district in-charges, to implement these measures.
Action plan for traffic management
Under the elaborate action plan, all the police district in-charges have met with hotel and resort owners in their areas to estimate the number of devotees and tourists expected. They have prepared action plans for traffic diversion, designated parking places, and identified bottleneck points. Nodal officers have been appointed in key locations such as Rishikesh, Haridwar, Mussoorie, and Nainital. Hotel and resort owners are instructed to strictly follow the guidelines for organizing events.
Sector and zone division
Major tourist places, hotels, religious sites, bus stands, railway stations, and other important locations have been divided into sectors and zones. Around 25 companies of PAC, 32 teams of SDRF, fire service teams with firefighting equipment, and additional police forces have been deployed to ensure safety and order.
Increased police visibility and continuous monitoring
Information on police management, traffic diversion plans, parking places, helpline numbers, and weather forecasts will be widely publicized through social media. Increased police visibility and continuous monitoring by district in-charges are also emphasized.
Every two hours reports regarding tourist movements and traffic management
The Police Headquarters will receive situation reports from districts every two hours regarding tourist movements and traffic management. Additionally, tourism police booths have been activated for the Winter Char Dham Yatra. With snowfall expected, instructions have been issued to place warning boards on roads, arrange JCBs to clear blocked roads promptly, and coordinate with concerned departments to provide alternate safe accommodations for tourists and devotees in emergencies.
Vehicle checking campaigns
Intensive vehicle checking campaigns will be conducted to address issues such as drunken driving, over speeding, rash driving, traffic rule violations, and disturbances during New Year celebrations. Strict legal actions will be taken against offenders. Along with this, special attention will be given to the safety of women, children, and senior citizens.
