Dehradun: In view of the increasing incidents of drowning in the rivers, Uttarakhand government is under plan to construct a 51-feet deep diving pool on the premises of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) headquarters in Jolly Grant area of Dehradun.
The deep dive pool is required for the high-level training of the jawans of the SDRF. Apart from the policemen of Uttarakhand, training will be imparted to policemen of other security agencies here.
Deep diving pool will be used for the training of jawans
Since Uttarakhand is a hill state, there are several rivers in districts like Chamoli, Tehri and Uttarkashi. As per the media report, the SDRF saved 308 persons from drowning in the year 2024. The deep diving pool will be useful for the training of the SDRF’ policemen in conducting search operations inside the rivers in case of the incidents of drowning.
A part of the U-PREPARE scheme
The deep diving polls will be constructed at the cost of Rupees 53 crores under the World Bank-aided five-year “Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Project” which is also referred to as the U-PREPARE scheme. It is a part of the SDRF’s training centre to be constructed. Currently, jawans are sent to Mumbai and Goa for training to undertake search and rescue operations inside the rivers to face the challenges of the drowning incidents.
Plan to meet the challenges of any major disaster
According to media reports, SDRF has entered into an agreement with the Indian Rescue Academy, Pune for proper conduct of the disaster management training programme. There is a plan to ensure proper training for the jawans to meet the challenges of major incidents of disasters.
Training to deal with different types of disasters
The proposed training centre, which will be constructed on the premises of the SDRF headquarters in Jolly Grant area of Dehradun under the World Bank-aided five-year “Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Project, will give training to jawans to handle different types of disasters. They will be also trained to undertake search and rescue operations in case of building collapse, external services, the waste management system and Ropeway rescue training.
