Gangotri: The much-awaited Char Dham Yatra 2025 commenced today, April 30, with the ceremonial opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
Thousands of devotees gathered to witness the grand rituals, marking the beginning of this sacred pilgrimage to the four revered shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
Gangotri Dham: A Divine Start
The doors of Gangotri Dham, dedicated to Mother Ganga, were opened at the Abhijeet Muhurta of 10:30 a.m., accompanied by chants of “Har-Har Gange” that echoed through the valley. The first puja was performed in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a tradition that underscores the spiritual significance of the event. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present at the Dham to offer prayers and seek blessings from Mother Ganga.
The opening ceremony was a sight to behold, with devotees and priests participating in the rituals with fervor. The Dham will now remain open for six months, allowing pilgrims from across the country to pay their respects and experience the divine aura of Gangotri.
Yamunotri Dham: Rituals and Devotion
Simultaneously, the portals of Yamunotri Dham, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, were also opened with due rituals. A large number of devotees gathered to witness the sacred moment, marking the start of their spiritual journey. The Yamunotri Dham, nestled in the serene Himalayas, is the first stop in the traditional clockwise route of the Char Dham Yatra.
However, the day was not without challenges. Thousands of devotees were stopped near the Janki Chatti bridge, the main halt for Yamunotri Dham, due to security concerns. While about a thousand devotees were allowed to proceed in the morning, the rest were asked to wait, causing some resentment among the pilgrims. Many had been waiting since early morning with small children, highlighting the need for better crowd management.
Preparations for Kedarnath and Badrinath
As the doors of Kedarnath Dham are set to open on May 2, preparations are in full swing to decorate the temple and ensure a smooth experience for devotees. Similarly, Badrinath Dham will welcome pilgrims starting May 4, completing the Char Dham circuit.
A Spiritual Journey Begins
The Char Dham Yatra is not just a pilgrimage but a journey of faith, devotion, and renewal. With the opening of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams, the spiritual fervor has set the tone for the months ahead. Despite logistical challenges, the enthusiasm of the devotees remains unwavering, as they embark on this sacred journey to seek divine blessings.
