Dehradun: The BJP is going all out for the upcoming by-election in the Kedarnath seat of the Uttarakhand Assembly. The party has tasked five state government ministers with overseeing different mandals within the Kedarnath assembly constituency.
Additionally, these ministers are instructed to conduct regular meetings with party members in their assigned mandals and hold public Darbar. The BJP aims to build a favorable atmosphere ahead of the by-election.
Kedarnath seat is associated with party’s prestige
In the last by-polls held on 10 July, the BJP lost both the assembly seats-Badrinath and Mangalore. Congress registered the win at both the seats after the announcement of results. This has led to state BJP more focussed on Kedarnath which lay vacant after the sudden demise of Kedarnath MLA and a BJP leader Shaila Rani Rawat. To mark its victory again on this seat, the party has put its team on the front as the by-polls of Kedarnath seat is linked to its prestige.
Five ministers have been given the responsibility
Five ministers of the state government have been given the responsibility of one division each of Kedarnath assembly constituency. Cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna has been given the responsibility of Guptkashi, Satpal Maharaj has been given the responsibility of Ukhimath, Rekha Arya has been given the responsibility of Agastyamuni, Subodh Uniyal has been given the responsibility of Agastyamuni Rural and Ganesh Joshi has been given the responsibility of Satera Khal mandal. Obviously, their skills will also be tested in the by-election.
BJP’s strategy is to create a favourable atmosphere
The ministers have been instructed to hold regular meetings with party workers in their respective divisions and conduct public Darbar. They have already made initial visits to their areas. The party’s strategy in deploying these ministers is to create a favorable atmosphere ahead of the by-elections. Additionally, they aim to ensure the resolution of public issues. It remains to be seen how effective the ministers’ efforts will be.
BJP claim Kedarnath seat
If we look at the by-elections of Badrinath and Mangalore assembly seats, BJP did not have these seats earlier, but its prestige is linked to Kedarnath. Although the schedule for the by-election has not been announced yet, BJP wants to leave no stone unturned as the party faces the challenge of retaining it.
This is the reason why the BJP has deployed in-charge and co-in-charge, migrant workers for Kedarnath and has also deployed five ministers of the government on the front. According to the BJP state general secretary Aditya Kothari, “The Kedarnath assembly seat belonged to the BJP and will remain with it. The party is preparing its strategy in view of the by-election for this seat.”
