Jyotirmath: In the aftermath of the devastating avalanche that struck Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, the recovery efforts are ongoing. Among the 46 workers injured in the avalanche, 37 have been discharged from Jyotirmath Army Hospital, while seven remain hospitalized and under treatment. Two seriously injured workers have been airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for further medical care.
Initially, after their discharge, these workers were clueless about their safe return to their homes as their money and luggage were buried under the snow following a massive avalanche on last Friday morning.
All the discharged workers have been sent to their homes
As the health of the workers improves, the process of discharging them from the hospital has begun. All the discharged workers have been sent to their homes with the help of the administration. Initially, the workers were worried about how they would reach their homes, as their luggage and money were buried under the snow after the avalanche. However, the administration arranged everything for their safe travel to their homes.
Company responsible for their employment has made arrangements to send them to Haridwar
Initially, after being discharged from the hospital, the workers face a significant challenge in reaching their homes. Their belongings and money were lost in the avalanche, leaving them with only the clothes on their bodies and shoes or slippers on their feet. The company responsible for their employment has made arrangements to send them to Haridwar, but beyond that, the workers are uncertain about how they will reach their final destinations.
Workers expressed their ordeal
Jayendra Prasad, a welder from Bihar, expressed his concerns, saying, “We don’t have any money or any belongings left. We are being sent home with only clothes on our body and slippers on our feet. The company has made arrangements till Haridwar; we don’t know what will happen next. God has saved us from such a big disaster; we will definitely find some way ahead.” While Jitesh Kumar, also from Bihar, shared similar sentiments, stating, “We don’t have a single penny to go home. All the belongings were buried in the avalanche. Only the clothes we are wearing are left. The company has made arrangements for us to go till Haridwar; we don’t know what will happen next. We hope that the company will make some arrangements in the future too. It is God’s grace that we are going home safely.”
Administration made arrangements
Manu Sharma, Manager of the Executing Company, assured that arrangements have been made for the workers to travel from Jyotirmath to Haridwar. The company’s employees will provide other facilities from Haridwar to ensure the workers reach their homes safely.
