Dehradun: The 38th National Games, themed “Green Games,” prioritize environmental safety by using green fireworks and cold pyros. This initiative aims to reduce pollution and make the event eco-friendlier.
Compared to traditional fireworks, green fireworks emit fewer harmful gases, helping to control air pollution. These fireworks contain fewer chemicals, reducing the carbon footprint. Additionally, cold pyros are being used, which produce less smoke and heat than conventional fireworks, causing minimal environmental damage. This innovation in the 38th National Games is being widely appreciated, and the government hopes it will set a precedent for future events.
What are Cold Pyros?
Cold pyros are a type of pyrotechnic display that uses a combination of liquid nitrogen and other chemicals to create a unique visual effect. Unlike traditional fireworks, cold pyros do not produce heat or sound, making them ideal for use in areas where noise and heat may be an issue.
Theme for the National Games this year is “Green Games”
With a focus on sustainability, the theme for the National Games this year is “Green Games.” A special park called the Sports Forest will be developed near the sports venue, where more than 10,000 saplings will be planted by athletes and guests. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state was prepared to host the 38th National Games with the theme ‘Green Games’ while reviewing preparations with members of the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) in December.
Medals and trophies will be made of e-waste
“With 70% of our land covered in forests, we aim to promote the ‘Green Games’ message. Our focus is on saving energy, making medals from e-waste, and creating a polythene-free zone. Players and visitors will be encouraged to use biodegradable plates, glasses, and reusable water bottles. All National Games venues will have solar panels. We will also implement other activities to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions,” said the Chief Minister.
Dhami also stated, “We want to raise awareness about environmental issues and increase environmental literacy among people through the 38th National Games.”
