New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025 to give aspirants sufficient time to prepare. the commission has postponed both the ESE Preliminary and ESE Main exams. The prelims exam will now be held on June 8 and the Main exam on August 10, 2025.
Moreover, the commission has also made changes in the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) recruitment process, which will now be included in the ESE for the Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal and Telecommunication and Stores sub-cadre.
The commission’s official notice reads, “the Government has decided that the recruitment to the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) will be made both through the Civil Services Examinations (for Traffic, Accounts and Personnel Sub-cadres) and ESE (for Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal & Telecommunication and Stores Sub-cadres)”.
As per the ESE 2024 schedule, the notification was released on September 18 and the last date to fill out the application form was October 8. However, due to the government’s decision to include IRMS recruitment through ESE, UPSC has started the application process again between October 18 to November 22. This window will allow new candidates to apply, and the existing candidates to update the details as needed.
ESE 2024 application correction
The ESE 2024 application correction can be done from November 23 to November 29, where candidates can modify the details as required. Candidates who applied during the earlier application timeline which was between September 18 to October 8 are not required to reapply but can update the information filled in the application form if necessary.
UPSC ESE eligibility criteria
To apply for the UPSC ESE 2025 exam, candidates need to fulfil the below eligibility requirements-
- Candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognised institute.
- The age of the candidate needs to be between 21 to 30 years of age as of January 1, 2025.
- There is age relaxation for some of the categories as per the government norms.
- Candidates who belong to India or those who have migrated to India from Nepal, Bhutan or Tibetan refugees before January 1, 1962, can apply and appear for the exam.
