Kanpur: The chilling tale of a woman’s murder and the ensuing cover-up has unfolded in Kanpur, with the discovery of her body four months after she was allegedly murdered.
The victim, who went missing on June 24th, was reportedly upset about the accused, Vimal Soni, a gym trainer, finalising his wedding plans. The duo had been in a relationship, but the impending nuptials to another woman had strained their bond, culminating in the tragic incident.
On the fateful day, the woman visited the gym after a 20-day absence. The duo went into the car, where an argument ensued, leading to Soni punching the woman in the neck, causing her to faint. He then allegedly murdered her, DCP (North Kanpur) Shravan Kumar Singh told reporters.
To conceal his heinous crime, Soni took the woman’s body to an area near the Kanpur District Magistrate’s bungalow, a location usually associated with security and official residence, and buried it.
The police, who had launched a probe following the woman’s disappearance and subsequent confirmation of her death, struggled to locate Soni as he did not use a mobile phone. The investigation took them across several states, including Pune, Agra, and Punjab, before they finally apprehended the suspect.
During questioning, Soni confessed to the murder and revealed the location of the victim’s body. The police, after unearthing the ground, retrieved the remains.
The case, which has been registered at the Kotwali district police station, is now under active investigation, with the police exploring all possible angles to ensure a thorough and just legal outcome. The investigation is focused on ascertaining if Soni had stolen the victim’s jewelry and determining any potential accomplices.
