New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has come to light from Uttar Pradesh, a 19-year-old man, who allegedly eloped with a minor girl, was found hanging inside the house of a policeman who was assigned to probe the case. Now, an investigation has been launched to find out what exactly happened behind the youth’s death and in which circumstances did he die.
In a swift move, the department has suspended four police officers for “negligence” following the man’s death, The Times of India reported.
It has come to the fore that rather than taking Deepak Kumar, the accused, to the police station in Bijnor, sub-inspector Sunil Kumar, who was investigating the case, brought the teenager to his house in Shamli on Sunday night. Sunil Kumar announced that Deepak had “hanged himself” on Monday morning.
‘This is murder’, says teen’s father
The family of the man has alleged that there was foul play. Deepak’s father Arvind Kumar told the news outlet that his son worked in Ambala, and the girl coerced him to take her along. He raised many questions: How did Deepak end up at the cop’s house? Where did he get a rope from? “This is murder. The girl’s family and the police have killed him,” he alleged.
Deepak had been accused of eloping with a 17-year-old girl from Bijnor to Ambala. According to the cops, the two were in a relationship for two years.
SI Sunil Kumar told the probe team that they decided to stay overnight at his father’s house in Shamli as their car broke down while going to Bijnor. According to the cop, the boy was locked in a room on first floor while girl’s family, other officers and he slept downstairs. It was around 5:30am that the boy was found hanging from a railing, he claimed. Shamli SHO Samaypal Atri said that they were informed about the death of the teen around 6am on Monday.
