New Delhi: A 49-year-old fisherman from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur has allegedly died by suicide in a Pakistan jail. As per reports, he had been in jail since 2022 after he was caught for illegally entering the neighbouring country’s territorial water body while fishing in Gujarat.
The family of deceased Ghurahu Bind said they first got to know about his death through a letter which was sent two days ago from an unknown number to the WhatsApp of his wife, Parvati. Initially confused and uncertain about its authenticity, the family did not raise concerns about the matter.
As per the reports, when a woman official from the Jaunpur district administration visited their home on Tuesday evening for the address verification, they received confirmation about Ghurahu’s death.
Parvati Devi, wife of the deceased, says that she suspects her husband was killed in the Pakistani jail. She has also requested the Indian government to make arrangements to bring the body back to India and conduct an autopsy by a team of doctors.
The family of Ghurahu claims that he had been working in Gujarat as a fisherman for the past many years, and used to come home every four months. Ghurahu’s daughter Sita stated, “On the evening of February 8, 2022, we were informed that my father had been arrested by Pakistani authorities along with seven others, including two men from our village, for entering their territorial waters. This information came from fellow villagers who work as fishermen in Gujarat.”
