New Delhi: An official from Uttar Pradesh drowned in the Ganga River amid allegations that local divers demanded payment for their services. The delay in transferring the money, due to a lack of cash, contributed to the drowning incident. The victim has been identified as Gaurav, a Deputy Director in the Health Department. His brother is an IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, and his wife is a judge.
The accident occurred at the Naanamau Ganga ghat in Kanpur Nagar. Gaurav had gone to bathe in the Ganga with three companions on Saturday. Local divers and an NDRF team are currently involved in the search efforts for the Deputy Director in the river’s deep waters.
