New Delhi: Sounding a stern warning, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised that any derogatory remark against saints and priests of any religion or faith were simply unacceptable and those making them will be punished.
His comments come in the wake of raging row surrounding priest Yati Narsinghanand’s remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
Yogi Adityanath pointed out that respect should be given to every faith and sect. He warned that any person found tampering with faith, and making derogatory remarks against any faith or sect will be brought under the purview of law and given punishment. “People of all sects, religions will have to respect each other,” he underlined.
The Uttar Pradesh CM said this as he was taking stock of the law and order situation with the chief secretary, DGP, and other officials in view of the approaching festive season.
Adityanath pointed out that anarchy, arson or vandalism in the name of protest will not be tolerated and those who indulged in it will face the consequences.
Raging row over Yati Narsinghanand’s ‘Prophet Muhammad’ comment
Recently, Yati Narsinghanand, a Ghaziabad-based priest, triggered a controversy after he made objectionable remarks about Prophet Muhammad. Police have lodged an FIR against him. However, the priest’s close associates claim that he had been detained in Ghaziabad. The UP police haven’t reacted to these claims.
A number of Muslim organisations and political outfits like the Samajwadi Party, the BSP, and the National Conference have raised a demand for his immediate arrest over the comments.
