Bahraich: The clashes between two communities have been reported in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. There were reports of stone pelting and gun firing in the incident that led to the killing of one person. The incident reportedly took place when one of the groups was going for idol immersion.
As per the police, the clashes started after one one the two groups claimed that slogans were raised against their community during the procession. After an altercation between the two communities, stone pelting and firing started. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area after the violence.
Several people were injured in the clashes
The deceased has been identified as Ram Gopal. Several persons have been injured in the incident, who have been shifted to a district hospital for treatment. Protesters also stopped their immersion and blocked the Bahraich-Sitapur highway over the incident. The police have also appealed to locals to maintain restraint and not to take law and order into their own hands.
Among the injured included Rajan (30) a resident of Rehua Mansoor. Others who were also injured included Sudhakar Tiwari (22), a resident of Tiwari Purwa. Satyavan (42), a handicapped resident of Siphiya Puli, and 52-year-old Akhilesh Bajpai were injured.
Senior Police Force reached the spot
Senior police officials reached the spot soon after the incident. Tensions continue to prevail in the area, after which a heavy police force has been deployed in the area. Later in the night the police also arrested the person responsible for firing which led to the killing of the person. The relatives of the deceased had earlier demanded strict punishment for the accused. Two police officers were also suspended after the incident.
