New Delhi: Results for bypolls held in nine assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will decide the fate of candidates running for these seats. While these by-election results won’t reshape the existing state assemblies, they offer a valuable glimpse into the shifting political sands.
The by-elections held on November 20 served as the first significant electoral test for both the INDIA bloc and the NDA in Uttar Pradesh since the 2022 assembly elections. The stakes were particularly high in Uttar Pradesh, where nine constituencies—Katehari, Karhal, Meerapur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Sisamau, Khair, Phulpur, and Kundarki—went to the polls.
This set of constituencies present a diverse range of past electoral results, with the Samajwadi Party securing wins in seats like Sisamau, Katehari, Karhal, and Kundarki in 2022, while the BJP claimed victories in Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, and Khair. The BJP ally, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), had won Meerapur. With 90 candidates vying for these seats, Ghaziabad alone witnessed a crowded field of 14 contestants.
The counting of votes will begin at 8 am by the Election Commission and the final result are likely to declared by evening.
