Akhnoor: An incident of unprovoked firing from Pakistani side of border in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir has been reported on Wednesday. In response to this, the Border Security Force (BSF) took immediate action.
However, a BSF soldier was injured during the exchange of fire. The soldiers stationed along the border are now on high alert.
What BSF said
This incident comes shortly after a statement from a senior BSF official, made on September 10, in which they reassured the public about the security measures in place to prevent infiltration.
The official emphasised that the BSF, along with allied agencies such as the police, has implemented all necessary measures to secure the borders and prevent terrorists from entering the region.
This assurance is particularly significant as the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are the first to be held since the removal of Article 370, which granted special status to the region.
In the statement, the BSF official stressed that the borders are secure and that the measures are in place to ensure no infiltration activities occur.
Previous attacks
This declaration came in the wake of an anti-infiltration operation conducted by the Indian Army over the past weekend in the Nowshera area near the Line of Control (LOC) in Rajouri district. During this operation, the Army reported the killing of two terrorists who were attempting to cross the border. A significant amount of ammunition was also recovered from the terrorists, including two AK-47 rifles and a pistol.
Additionally, there was another incident where a soldier was injured in a terrorist attack outside the Sunjwan Army Base in Jammu. The soldier later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
