New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday (December 20) extended the interim bail granted to expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar by three days in the custodial death of the Unnao rape victim’s father in which he is serving a 10-year jail term.
Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri adjourned the hearing on Sengar’s plea seeking extension of his interim bail on medical grounds till December 23 after the court was informed that a division bench of the High Court was also hearing a similar plea by Sengar in the main Unnao rape case.
Sengar’s plea was also listed before division bench and an order was awaited, single bench was informed
The judge was also informed that Sengar’s plea for extension of his interim bail on medical grounds was also listed before the division bench and an order was awaited.
“Renotify on Monday (December 23). Till then the interim bail is extended on the same previous conditions,” Justice Ohri said.
Sengar’s plea for extension of interim bail in the main Unnao rape case was also heard by a division bench on Friday
A bench comprising Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Amit Sharma, while hearing Sengar’s plea in the main Unnao rape case, considered Sengar’s medical report submitted by AIIMS and remarked that it would extend Sengar’s interim bail by four weeks, news agency PTI reported.
Single bench earlier granted 10-day interim bail to Sengar
The single bench had earlier on December 10 granted 10-day interim bail to Sengar on medical grounds and suspended his sentence for the time being, noting that he was granted a similar relief by the division bench of the High Court in the main Unnao rape case.
The division bench earlier on December 5 granted Sengar two-week interim bail on medical grounds till December 20 in the main case of raping a minor in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh in 2017 and had put an interim suspension on his sentence.
While Sengar is serving imprisonment for the remainder of his biological life in minor’s rape case, he is serving a 10-year jail term awarded to him in the case of the death of the father of the Unnao rape victim in custody.
