New Delhi: Expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar on Thursday sought before the Delhi High Court an extension of his interim bail for five months on medical grounds.
A bench comprising Justice Prathiba M Singh and Amit Sharma, hearing Sengar’s plea, which had earlier granted Sengar interim bail till December 20 in the case of raping a minor in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh in 2017, asked for a report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) medical board to be supplied to Sengar’s counsel and posted the matter for December 20.

Sengar, who is serving imprisonment for the remainder of his biological life in minor’s rape case, had earlier moved the High Court seeking suspension of his sentence on medical grounds, submitting that he was suffering from various ailments.

The division bench of the High Court granted Sengar interim bail till December 20 and directed that he be admitted to AIIMS, Delhi for his medical evaluation. It also sought a report from the medical board of AIIMS.
What did the High Court say on Thursday?
The bench on Thursday observed that aside from a previous medical report, AIIMS in a communication raised objections over the number of visitors visiting Sengar and said that large number of persons visited Sengar which compromised medical care and impacted daily routine in AIIMS.
“AIIMS has never sent a communication before,” the bench said, news agency PTI reported.
The counsel representing Sengar, however, told the bench that only Sengar’s family members had visited him during the medical evaluation.
