Sengar moved High Court seeking interim bail on medical grounds
Sengar moved the High Court seeking interim bail on medical grounds, submitting that he was suffering from various ailments. His plea seeking interim bail on medical grounds was opposed by the victim as well as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Sengar was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for remainder of his biological life for raping a minor
Sengar was convicted by a Delhi court for raping a minor and was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for the remainder of his biological life. The trial court, while convicting him, had said that he was a public servant and people had reposed their faith in him but he had betrayed their trust. The trial court had also ordered Sengar to pay a Rs 25 lakh fine, out of which the victim was ordered to be paid Rs 10 lakh as compensation. His appeal against the trial court order is pending before the High Court.
Sengar was also convicted in the case of death of victim’s father
Sengar was also sentenced rigorous imprisonment for 10 years in the case of death of the rape victim’s father in custody. The father of the Unnao rape survivor was arrested at the behest of Sengar in a case under Arms Act and he died on April 9, 2018, while in judicial custody. The trial court had also awarded a 10-year jail term to Sengar’s brother Atul Singh Sengar and five others.
The Unnao rape case and related cases were transferred to Delhi from the trial court in Uttar Pradesh on the Supreme Court’s directions on August 1, 2019.
