New Delhi: Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Saturday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the Bhadrachalam-Malkangiri new railway line. Thanking the Prime Minister, Reddy said that while the new railway line will help in enhancing passenger movement, it will also help to boost various sectors including agriculture and tourism.

Taking to X, the minister wrote, “ I extend my gratitude to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi
ji and Union Minister for Railways Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for approving new Bhadrachalam-Malkangirirailway line in Telangana. The new railway line will enhance passenger movement, facilitating easier and more efficient travel while significantly boosting various sectors such as agriculture, business, and tourism, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.”
Notably, on August 9, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved as many as eight new line railway projects covering seven states and 800 km. The total cost of these projects is Rs 24 thousand 657 crore. The Bhadrachalam-Malkangiri project will cover 173 km, while the estimated cost of this project is around Rs 4,109 crore. Bhadrachalam temple town will also be connected to the main rail line network.

According to the government, these projects will help in expanding the existing rail network by nearly 900 km. Under these projects, while 14 districts will benefit, a total of 64 new railway stations will also come up.
Demand was going on for some time
The demand for the Malkangiri-Bhadrachalam railway line has been going on for a long time. As per the government, the project will help to boost trade, but will also help in increasing connectivity, and make travel easier for passengers.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the approval of 8 new railway line projects will boost the infrastructure related to connectivity. Taking to X, The prime minister also said that while this was very good news for commerce and connectivity, will also help to increase employment opportunities.
