Dehradun: Uttarakhand is set to add a new chapter in the country’s history as the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code on November 9, which coincides with the state’s foundation day. The final draft report is being sent for printing.
The committee, which drafted the rules and regulation for the implementation of the UCC, has given its approval to the draft report. The panel is expected to submit the final draft to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami within the next two weeks.
Approval of the final draft report by the panel
The final draft will be soon submitted to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The draft committee, headed by former chief secretary Shatrughan Singh, approved the final draft report at a meeting held in Bijapur guest house in Dehradun on Monday.
Draft report is being sent for printing
Sources said the 500-page draft report, which is being sent for printing, is likely to be submitted to the chief minister within two weeks. “CM Dhami is keen to announce the implementation of the UCC in the Himalayan state on November 9 on the state’s foundation day. It will be a historical day for Uttarakhand as it will be the country’s first state to implement the UCC,” a source in the state government said.
The legal process to be completed before the implementation of UCC
Sources said the final draft, which will be submitted to the CM Dhami, will be first sent to the state’s law department. “As per the legal process, the law department will take the final call before the state cabinet clears the draft report. Then the state government will notify the law,” the source explained the legal process before the CM’s announcement of the implementation of the UCC in the state.
Digital facilities for registration of marriages, Live-in relationships
As per the recommendations of the committee, the government will provide digital facilities for the registration of marriages, live-in relationships, documentations and corrections of wills, birth and death certificates. Sources further said the people will be given six-month time for the registration of their marriages. Such people, who have got their marriages registered in other states, will upload the details such as their marriage registration number on the web portal. The web portal and mobile applications, developed by the draft committee, are integrated with different portals of the central government.
Common Service Centres for helping people who are not tech-savvy
As per the plan, 15000 common service centres (CSC) will be set up across the state to help such people who are not tech-savvy. The CSC will extend help to all such people, who are tech-savvy, to get registered their marriages or other required things.
