Dhami government has been running a campaign against illegal Mazar construction in the state
The Dhami government in Uttarakhand has launched a campaign against the illegal construction of Mazars (mausoleum). This initiative follows a series of actions taken by the state government to address unauthorized religious structures, particularly those built on public and forest lands. Moreover, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has emphasized that the government will not tolerate “land jihad” and has vowed to demolish all illegal Mazars. The campaign involves identifying and removing unauthorized structures, with over 300 Mazars demolished in recent months.
Purpose of construction of Mazar inside residential school is still not clear
The unexpected construction of a mausoleum on this boarding School campus has raised eyebrows. The purpose behind erecting such a structure at a prestigious institution like Doon School remains unclear. Upon receiving the information, DM Savin Bansal swiftly ordered an investigation and subsequently had the mausoleum demolished. Radha Dhoni Semwal from a Hindu organization streamed a live video on social media on Tuesday, showing the mausoleum being built within the School boundary. This caused a significant stir in the government and administration.
Supreme Court order on illegal Mazar construction
It is important to note that the Supreme Court has clearly stated that no shrine or religious place can be built without the permission of the District Magistrate (DM). However, the shrine being constructed at country’s prestigious School is seen as a direct violation of this order. Upon receiving the news, DM Savin Bansal immediately halted the construction. Initially, he ordered an investigation to legalize the matter, but due to the seriousness of the situation, the under-construction shrine was later demolished.
