London: The United Kingdom has issued an urgent travel warning for its citizens visiting 18 countries due to increasing tensions. Among the countries for which the warning has been issued include Middle Eastern countries amid the ongoing conflict in the region. Among the countries for which notification has been issued include Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, and Cyprus
Other countries for which the UK issued the advisory include Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Tunisia, Kuwait, Oman, Israel, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.
UK Government advises citizens to exercise caution
Further, the UK Government also advised its citizens to exercise caution while visiting these countries. It also urged those travelling in these countries to review their travel insurance. It observed that some travel insurance policies might not cover incidents in some regions with increasing tensions. The government also asked those travelling to sign up for travel advice emails and SMS alerts so that they can receive the latest updates from the government.
Separate advisory was issued for Turkey last week
Notably, a separate advisory was issued for Turkey, which saw a major terrorist attack last week. The terror attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries’ facility in Kahramankazan had left at least five dead and nearly 22 injured. Two attackers also reportedly died in the incident, as per Turkish officials If any UK citizen reaches the area where the attack took place, they are required to follow the advice of the local officials and also follow information on local media, the advisory added further. As per the advisory, security has been increased at Turkish airports, which means longer wait time at security checks.
