Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy was attacked with coconuts and cow dung. The attack came just a day after his cousin’s car was attacked with betel nuts. The police said that those who attacked Uddhav’s car were workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, led by Raj Thackeray.
Were responding to attack on Raj Thackeray: MNS workers
The police said that they have detained more than 20 people, all of whom are workers of Raj Thackeray’s party, the MNS, for the attack on Uddhav’s convoy. The workers of the party meanwhile claimed that the attack was a response to the Friday attack on their leader Raj Thackeray’s convoy with tomatoes and betel nuts.
A formal case will be registered in the matter, said a senior police official. Raj Thackeray’s car had been attacked on Friday afternoon, police said. In response, Uddhav’s convoy was attacked by the MNS workers. The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief was on a tour of central Maharashtra region when the attack took place.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders have called the attack on Uddhav a result of the failure of the state government. Party leader Anand Dubey was quoted as saying by the Times of India, “The way Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy was attacked in Thane, Uddhav Thackeray, who has Z category security, is the son of Balasaheb Thackeray and has been a CM of Maharashtra. This attack is a failure of the state government. The law and order situation has completely collapsed here and the Home Minister should resign.”
Earlier also Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders have alleged that Raj Thackeray has entered a deal to undermine the influence of the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction. Police said that they are investigating the case from all angles.
