Badrinath: Two Malaysian nationals were swept away in Alaknanda River near Badrinath shrine on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred when they were visiting the Badrinath Dham during Char Dham pilgrimage.
One person was saved from drowning but search is on for the second person who was swept away in the strong current of Alaknanda River. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is involved in the search efforts.
SDRF rescued father but son was swept away in strong current
A Malaysian family visiting Badrinath Dham faced a tragic incident on Tuesday morning when a man was swept away in the Alaknanda River near the Gandhi ghat. His son, witnessing the event, immediately jumped into the river to save him. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) managed to rescue one of them, while the search continues for the other.
SDRF immediately rushed to the spot
SDRF and other forces reached the spot after receiving information about a person being swept away in the river near Gandhi Ghat of Badrinath Dham. Meanwhile, another person also jumped into the river. One person was rescued by SDRF with the help of locals by going about 200 meters away, but search is on for the other person.
Father-son duo are Malaysia nationals
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the two individuals swept away in the river were father and son. The father, Suresh Chandra (60), a resident of Malaysia, was rescued and is currently receiving treatment at Vivekananda Hospital. His son, Dr. Ballabh Shetty (40), had traveled to India with four other family members on September 14. They arrived at Badrinath Dham on September 24 as part of their Char Dham pilgrimage.
Three people were swept away in Uttarakhand on Sunday
In a similar incident, three people, including a child, were washed away in rivers in two separate incidents in Uttarakhand on Sunday. Two youths from Delhi were among those who were swept away. They drowned while bathing in the Ganga River in Shivpuri near Rishikesh. In a separate incident, a 12-year-old boy was washed away in the Kosi river at 4 pm near Nainital’s Ramnagar.
