New Delhi: Two IndiGo flights — one operating from Mumbai to Jeddah and another from Mumbai to Muscat — received bomb threats on Monday, according to news agency ANI. The threats forced the airline authorities to take immediate action to ensure security of the passengers. The Mumbai-Muscat flight (6E 1275) and the other Mumbai-Jeddah flight (6E 56) were taken to an isolated bay.
An IndiGo spokesperson said that following the standard operating procedure, the aircraft were redirected to an isolated bay and mandatory security checks were promptly initiated. The spokesperson confirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on board. The authorities are investigating the threats.
Earlier on Monday morning, Air India flight AI 119 from Mumbai to New York was diverted mid-air to Delhi due to a “specific security alert”. It is yet not clear whether it was a hoax threat. After aircraft’s security inspection is done, the plane may be given permission to fly to New York. The plane was going to JFK airport but after receiving “a specific security alert and on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee”, it was diverted to Delhi, an Air India spokesperson said.
Technical snag hits Air India flight
On Friday, an Air India Express Tiruchirappalli-Sharjah flight witnessed a mid-air technical glitch just after takeoff, prompting the plane to circle several times in the sky to reduce fuel and weight before safe landing. Immediately after taking off, the plane experienced a fault related to hydraulic systems, the landing gear, the airlines said.
An untoward incident was prevented by the agile pilots and lives of approximately 141 passengers onboard was saved. Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin lauded the pilots and the crew of the aircraft for landing the plane safely.
An Air India Express spokesperson had then stated, “After reporting a technical snag, the aircraft circled multiple times in the designated area as an abundant precaution, to reduce fuel and weight considering the runway length, before making a safe precautionary landing.”
