New Delhi: A family celebrating Diwali in Delhi’s Farsh Bazar locality was struck by tragedy on Thursday night after an assailant entered their home and opened fire, injuring three members. Two of the victims were declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital, while a 10-year-old remains in critical condition and has been moved to AIIMS Trauma Centre for further treatment.
The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Akash and his 16-year-old nephew, Rishabh Sharma, while the injured boy is 10-year-old Krish Sharma.
Two pronounced dead on arrival at hospital
According to deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam, the police received a report of gunfire in Bihari Colony at around 8.30pm on Thursday. Officers arrived immediately to find the injured already transported to the hospital. Medical staff pronounced Akash and Rishabh dead on arrival, and Krish was referred to AIIMS for specialised care due to the severity of his injuries.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Akash was celebrating Diwali with his son, Krish, and nephew, Rishabh, outside their home when a young man approached and fired five shots, hitting all three.
Ongoing dispute between victim and accused
DCP Gautam mentioned that initial findings suggest the attack stemmed from a personal dispute. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is currently being reviewed to identify the suspect. According to family members, a man known as Bunty approached Akash and sought his blessings by touching his feet before suddenly opening fire. The family confirms there was an ongoing dispute with Bunty.
The cops have formed a team to further investigate the case, with efforts underway to locate and arrest the suspect.
