New Delhi: A fresh wave of bomb threats targeting Mumbai-bound trains has prompted a major security operation in Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, authorities received information via social media alleging the presence of explosives aboard the Kamayani Express (Ballia-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) and the Dadar Express (Gorakhpur-Mumbai).
Acting swiftly, railway officials immediately halted both trains, the Kamayani Express at Ballia Railway Station and the Dadar Express at Audhihar Railway Station. A comprehensive search operation involving a joint team from the district administration, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) is currently underway. A dog squad has also been deployed at Ballia station.
The threats received around 10:30 am, have triggered a major security alert, highlighting the vulnerability of railway infrastructure to such threats. The meticulous search is aimed at ensuring passenger safety and preventing any potential disaster.
This incident follows a similar bomb threat last week targeting Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station and Nedumbassery Airport. A Facebook Messenger message claimed explosives had been planted at both locations. Investigations revealed the message originated from Telangana, and authorities have identified the sender, dispatching a police team to the state for further investigations. Security checks were also carried out at railway stations in Kollam, Kottayam, and Ernakulam, with no suspicious items found at Thiruvananthapuram station.
While railway authorities maintain that train services remain unaffected, these recent events underscore the ongoing need for robust security protocols and vigilance across railway networks and airports. The incident has prompted a high-level security meeting at Nedumbassery Airport, leading to a decision to strengthen security measures further. The heightened security measures aim to reassure passengers and prevent future incidents.
