New Delhi: In a recent exchange on social media platform X, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk responded to a post from Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of AI firm Perplexity, who disclosed that he has been waiting for a green card for the past three years. Musk labelled the United States visa process as “an upside down system,” arguing that it creates significant barriers for highly talented individuals seeking to enter the country legally. He posed a question: “Why is it easier to get in illegally as a murderer than legally as a Nobel Laureate?”
Musk’s comments came amid growing concerns about the US immigration system, which many see as flawed and inefficient. He referenced former President Donald Trump, suggesting that both Trump and a proposed “Department of Government Efficiency,” or DOGE, could potentially fix the system.
Musk’s immigration history under scrutiny
The mention of DOGE follows a suggestion by a user on social media, which Musk endorsed, calling it a “perfect name” for an initiative aimed at improving government operations. Earlier this year, Trump had indicated that he would consider Musk for a cabinet position if he were to regain the presidency.
However, Musk’s own immigration history has come under scrutiny. Reports indicate that he may face deportation due to allegations of working illegally in the United States during the 1990s. In light of these revelations, Musk remarked, “A lot of people still don’t believe me when I say that the Dems will do everything in their power to destroy me if they win on Nov 5th.” The Tesla owner is one of the most known people to support Trump in the upcoming November 5 US presidential elections.
The Washington Post recently reported that Musk’s immigration issues have been so significant that potential investors hesitated to provide him with millions of dollars unless he resolved his immigration status within a tight deadline.
