New Delhi: Things aren’t going well in the Italian capital with AS Roma struggling for form ever since the season started. The Italian outfit are sitting outside the top half of the table in 11th position and just suffered their fourth defeat of the season, a 3-2 loss against mid-table minnows Hellas Verona. The past few seasons have been good for the Giallorossi with three back-to-back 6th place finishes and European glory to boast for, so this seems like unchartered territory for them.
The Giallorossi have already done away with one manager this season after the Friedkin Group, owners of the capital club, decided to sack club legend Daniele De Rossi in September, just a month after the new season had begun. Sacking De Rossi was already an unpopular decision with the fans of the club considering De Rossi was a legend as a player and did a good job after coming midway through last season.

The decision went down even poorly with the after he was replaced by Croatian manager, Ivan Jurić. The Croat had mostly managed smaller clubs in the Italian top-flight and didn’t have the best of records with them. Out of all the clubs he had managed in Serie A, he’d never achieved a win percentage of higher than 30% which is extremely poor for a club like Roma. Hence, the fans were skeptical of the appointment and understandably so.
Now that the 49-year-old has been in charge of the club for a little while, the perception around the manager hasn’t changed. He has managed to win just four of his first 10 games this season, while losing four as well, including a 1-0 loss to Swedish side Elfsborg in the Europa League and a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Fiorentina, in addition to the Hellas Verona loss. Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport reveals that the Friedkins were in London and Paris for meetings and they could be looking at replacing Jurić.

While the club hasn’t yet stated that they will be sacking the manager, reports in the country are gathering pace that the Croatian’s time at the club is coming to an end. With Jurić’s future seemingly up in the air, there are multiple names that are being linked with the AS Roma job should the Croatian’s short tenure at the club, come to a premature end. As per reports from the La Gazzetta dello Sport, there are multiple names in consideration to be Jurić’s potential replacements.
Paulo Sousa, who has previous Serie A experience with Italian clubs Fiorentina and Salernitana, is one of the candidates for the role. He is currently in charge of UAE side Shabab Al Ahli but has a release clause in his contract that the Italian outfit can activate. Gazzetta also mentions two former Chelsea managers for the role in Frank Lampard and Graham Potter. Both will be new names to Italian football if they are to take charge of the club.
Lampard could be the man to replace Jurić considering he was recently the manager of Everton and is a name suggested by people close to Everton, the club that the Friedkins recently bought. The report winds up by hinting at two more names that are familiar with Italian football, Maurizio Sarri, Roberto Mancini and Max Allegri, all of whom are free to join any club. However, another Italian publication, Tuttosport, claims that Mancini could be overlooked for the role given his ties to rivals Lazio.
