Train carrying Maha Kumbh pilgrims from Gujarat to Prayagraj pelted with stones

Jalgaon: An incident of stone pelting was reported in a train traveling from Surat, Gujarat, to Prayagraj on Sunday afternoon. The train was filled with passengers, many of whom were pilgrims heading to Maha Kumbh. The incident took place as the train passed through Jalgaon in Maharashtra around 3.20 pm.

Reports indicate that stones were thrown at the train, shattering the window glass of coach of Taptiganga Express. Glass fragments were scattered inside the coach, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Passengers in the coach captured videos of the damage and reported the incident to railway authorities.

Incident details

According to Deputy CTI Sohanlal, a 20-22-year-old person threw a stone at the train after it left Jalgaon station, breaking the window glass near berths 33-39. The motive behind the act remains unclear, as the culprit fled the scene before authorities could apprehend him.

Railway officials responded promptly. Sub-inspector NK Singh attended the train at Bhusaval station and recorded Deputy CTI Sohanlal’s statement. Inspector Jalgaon and sub-inspector Manoj Soni inspected the site of the stone-pelting but found no leads.

Investigation underway

A case has been registered against an unidentified person at RPF police station in Jalgaon. Sub-inspector Manoj Soni has been assigned to investigate the matter. 

The railway officials have issued a memo to ensure further safety precautions and to identify the person responsible.
