A 14-year-old boy from Massachusetts tragically lost his life after participating in the #OneChipChallenge, a viral trend promoted by Paqui Chips. This challenge required participants to consume an exceptionally spicy tortilla chip without drinking water and share their reactions on social media.
Massachusetts Boy’s Fatal Attempt at Viral #OneChipChallenge
The young boy, identified as Harris Wolobah, had eaten the spicy Paqui chips at school, leading to stomach discomfort. He was brought home and initially felt somewhat better but suddenly fainted. Harris was rushed to the hospital, where the cause of his death remains unclear, pending autopsy results. His mother, however, believes that complications arose due to the extremely spicy chip.
The Dark Side of Paqui Chips’ Spicy Challenge
It’s worth noting that Paqui had previously issued a warning on its website, specifying that the snack was intended exclusively for adults and could have severe medical consequences. The company advised individuals to consult a doctor if they experienced any problems such as fainting, breathing difficulties, or vomiting after consuming the chip.
Paqui’s #OneChipChallenge featured a tortilla chip infused with two of the world’s hottest chili peppers, the Carolina Reaper Pepper and the Naga Viper Pepper, both of which are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for their extreme spiciness.
