Badrinath: Amid heavy rush of pilgrims during Pitru Paksh at Brahma Kapal in Badrinath, Badri-Kedar temple committee, on Thursday, provided buckets and mugs to priest community to save pilgrims from drowning at bathing ghats, as pilgrims perform rituals by entering in overflowing Alaknanda River.
Recently, two Malaysian nations were swept away in strong current of Alaknanda River while performing the rituals at Gandhi Ghat of Alaknanda River which has prompted the BKTC to take precautionary measures when rivers in Uttarakhand are in spate amid torrential rains across the state.
BKTC discussed the issue with priest community
Following the tragic incident of pilgrims drowning while bathing, sipping water, and offering water in the Alaknanda River at Badrinath shrine, the temple committee has ramped up its awareness campaign. On Tuesday, under the direction of Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) President Ajendra Ajay, BKTC Chief Executive Officer Vijay Prasad Thapliyal, along with the police administration, inspected the bathing ghats at Badrinath and consulted with the pilgrimage priests.
BKTC provided buckets for pilgrims to use while bathing
BKTC media in-charge Dr. Harish Gaur reported from Badrinath shrine that the temple committee has provided ten buckets and mugs to the Shri Badrinath Panda Panchayat for pilgrims to use while bathing. BKTC Vice President Kishore Pawar emphasized the need to secure the bathing ghats, suggesting that double security measures, such as iron chains along the riverbanks, should be implemented.

Following the tragic drowning incident of an Indian-origin NRI father and son from Malaysia on Tuesday, September 24, the temple committee has reached out to pilgrimage priests associated with Shraddha Tarpan and the Shri Badrinath Panda Panchayat. They have urged them to raise awareness among pilgrims about the dangers of entering the river.
Loudspeaker announcements warning against entering the river
The district police administration has also increased the frequency of loudspeaker announcements warning against entering the river, which has had a noticeable impact on the pilgrims. Today, on behalf of the temple committee, administrative officer Kuldeep Bhatt and store in-charge Jagmohan Bartwal handed over buckets and mugs to Shri Badrinath Panda Panchayat President Praveen Dhyani and other Panchayat representatives for pilgrims to use. On this occasion, the Panda Panchayat President expressed gratitude to BKTC President Ajendra Ajay, as well as to Vice President Kishore Pawar and Chief Executive Officer Vijay Prasad Thapliyal.
