Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress suspended two of its student wing leaders after a short film they were part of, on the RG Kar incident, stirred up controversy. Sharing details senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said the party had nothing to do with the film and that it also want justice for the victim. According to a report by TV9 Bangla, while Trinamool Chhatra Parishad leader Rajanya Halder acted in the film, another student wing leader Thanhik Chakraborty directed the short film.
Issuing a press statement on Friday, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad President Trinankur Bhattacharya said that both student wing leaders have been suspended has already been implemented. When asked the reason behind their suspension, Bhattacharya said that both have been suspended for violating party discipline. He added that both would remain under suspension till the party takes final decision on them.
Kunal Ghosh issues a message on X
In his message on on X, senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh that the party wants justice for the victim, it is against “any attempt to use this sensitive issue for propaganda.” He added, “The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad leadership has been asked to investigate and take strict action against those involved.” It was after this message that the party announced the suspension of Rajnya and Thanhik.
Speaking to TV9 Network, Trinankur Bhattacharya said, “There is a controversy surrounding a film. Many people think that it was done by Trinamool Party or Trinamool Student Council. The party is making it clear that it is not associated with the short film. The two were suspended as they were associated with it. The disciplinary committee is looking into the matter. But the party didn’t know anything about short films.”
TMC leadership against the release of the film
As per sources, the Trinamool leadership does not want the short film to be released under this atmosphere when the entire state and rest of the country are angry over the RG Kar hospital incident in Kolkata in August this year when a 31-year-old doctor was allegedly raped and murdered.
