Three dead in Uttarakhand’s Tehri after cloudburst, roads and bridges washed away in Kedarnath

Dehradun: Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag and Tehri districts on Wednesday night. After the cloudburst, 3 people died in Tehri due to heavy rain late at night, whereas, Kedar valley in Rudraprayag witnessed a disaster like scene when a large part of the road was washed away.

Road washed away in Sonprayag, trekking route is severely damaged

Heavy rains caused damage at various places in Kedar Valley on Wednesday night. According to the local police, a large part of the road about one km ahead of the Sonprayag main market has been washed out due to river erosion and hill cracking. Presently, the administration has blocked this route and pedestrians have been banned. Besides, two bridges on the Mandakini river at Rambada on the Kedarnath trekking route were also washed away. These Bridges were located on the old trekking route which was being used as a short cut by pilgrims.

Similarly, the Kedarnath trekking route has been damaged at many places near Gaurikund, between Jungle Chatti and Bhimbali police post and in Lyncholi area. All the pilgrims are advised by the police to stay safe and stop their further movement and postpone their Kedarnath shrine Yatra for the time being.

A total of 9 deaths have been reported from across Uttarakhand since the rains on Wednesday. The pilgrims stranded on Kedarnath route are being rescued by the SDRF by shifting them to Helipad near Sonprayag and Gaurikund.

Three dead in Jakhaniyali, Tehri

After heavy rains lashed most parts of the Uttarakhand on Wednesday, three people have died in Tehri’s Jakhaniyali after a cloudburst and a hotel got washed away. The hotel in Tehri was hit by debris due to cloudburst on Wednesday night. Afterwards, three people of the same family died after being buried under the debris. Along with this, two more people were killed in Haridwar in a house collapse. Many vehicles have also been swept away in the debris and floods.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to the Disaster Management Secretary and discussed the relief and rescue operations. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 48 hours.

Landslide in Mussoorie-Dehradun route

After a massive landslide occurred on Wednesday evening near Kolhu Farm on the Mussoorie Dehradun road and large boulders and debris accumulated on the road. Due to the closure of the road, there was a long traffic jam on both sides, causing trouble to commuters.

CM Dhami spoke to Disaster Management Secretary

As most of the districts of Uttarakhand are on red alert for Rains, heavy rains have been continuing in Uttarakhand since Wednesday afternoon. Therefore, all the rivers, rivulets and streams are overflowing and the connecting roads have also been submerged. Cases of landslides and debris entering houses have been reported from many places in the state. In this concern, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to the Disaster Management Secretary over the phone late on Wednesday night. Along with information about the affected areas, the status of relief and rescue operations was also known. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had instructed the district administration, NDRF and SDRF teams to remain on alert.
