Bengaluru: The three-day meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the highest decision-making body of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), began in Bengaluru on Friday with 1,480 representatives from across the country including chief Mohan Bhagwat and members from 32 affiliated organisations linked outfit coming under a single roof.
The event is also being held to commemorate 100 years of the RSS. Prominent leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including party president JP Nadda and organisational general secretary BL Santhosh, are also expected to attend.
The discussions will cover various national and organisational matters, focusing on the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Hindu persecution in Bangladesh, and the RSS’s 100-year journey.
Speaking at the inaugural, an ABPS leader said the convention is more of expanding and consolidating work done by the RSS in the past years rather than celebrating it. He also paid homages to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Union minister Debendra Pradhan, who passed away earlier this week.
Key Issues to Be Discussed
One of the primary topics of discussion will be the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The RSS strongly supports the reintroduction and execution of the NRC but believes that efforts should be made to ensure that common citizens do not feel threatened by the process. The meeting aims to address concerns and formulate a strategy that aligns with national interests while maintaining public confidence.
Besides this, the current situation in Bangladesh and the treatment of Hindus and other minority communities will be a crucial part of the discussions. The RSS executive committee will pass a resolution highlighting the need for global awareness and action to protect minorities in Bangladesh.
RSS’s future plans
As the RSS approaches its 100th anniversary, discussions will take place on the organisation’s achievements, ongoing work, and its vision for the future. Senior leaders will present their plans, programmes, and organisational strategies for the coming years.
Apart from RSS-centered talks, the meeting may also touch upon the BJP’s recent election wins and political strategies. It is speculated that delays in appointing a new BJP national president could be raised as an issue during the discussions.
Additionally, the meeting may review the functioning of various RSS-affiliated organisations and discuss potential leadership changes within the RSS and its allied groups. Some major decisions regarding structural reforms and leadership transitions could be taken.
Insights from RSS Leaders
RSS Chief Spokesperson Sunil Ambekar recently stated that the meeting’s executive committee will approve resolutions regarding Bangladesh and the RSS centenary celebrations.
Meanwhile, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale will provide an update on the organisation’s ongoing activities and future roadmap. Regional heads will also present reports on their programmes, roles, and strategies, which will be reviewed and discussed.
Ambekar emphasised that one of the key issues to be addressed is the safety, dignity, and cultural sensitivity of Hindus across the world. The RSS believes that every effort must be made to ensure the security and rights of Hindus, both in India and abroad.
Following discussions and approvals within the executive committee, the resolutions will be presented to the core committee for final decision-making.
