Kolkata: A day before a Kolkata Court is set to announce its verdict in RG Kar rape and murder case, the parents f the victim on Friday said that the probe in the case has only been done half and that ‘more accused in the case are still roaming freely’. In August last year, a young woman was allegedly raped and murdered in the case. The incident sent shock waves across the country and the rest of the world, which led to numerous protests by doctors and others.
The police had arrested Sanjay Roy in the case on August 10. He used to work as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police. The additional district and sessions judge of Sealdah court, where the trial of the case ended on January 9 will pass the judgment on Saturday.
‘What about other accused who are still roaming free?’
“Sanjay (Roy) is guilty, and tomorrow’s verdict will be against him. But what about other criminals who are still not caught? I can see them roaming freely. I have seen them loitering in the hospital. So, the investigation is half-done,” the mother of the victim said while speaking to news agency PTI.
The mother said that while the evidence proved Sanjay Roy guilty in the case, she believed that some other accused were being shielded in the case. “All the evidence was either lost or erased. A large number of people were present when (the then) Police Commissioner Vineet Goel visited the crime scene. It was looking like a fish market. Those seen at the crime scene must be punished,” she added further.
Yet to know the reason behind the daughter’s killing: Victim’s mother
“I am yet to know why my daughter was killed in that fashion. What did she come to know that she was not allowed to live?” said further. Seconding her views, her husband and the father of the victim also felt that the probe in the case was not yet completed.
“I do not think Sanjay was alone. Others were very much involved in the crime, but they were still free. Hopefully, they will be arrested and their guilt will be proven. Until then, justice is not delivered,” the father added, as per the agency.
