New Delhi: Netflix has once again found itself at the center of controversy. This time, aliens are involved in a legal battle. Yes, you read that right. In a surprising turn of events, the streaming giant is reportedly being sued in the New York Supreme Court by a woman who claims she was abducted by aliens in 1989.
According to a Forbes report, the woman has taken legal action against Netflix over its upcoming show The Manhattan Alien Abduction. She is alleging that it defames her. The lady further claimed that the series steals upon the work of the late author Budd Hopkins who first documented her story two decades back.
Linda Napolitano and the estate of Budd Hopkins are not only seeking damages but have also asked that Netflix and Top Hat Productions halt the show’s release, which was scheduled for Wednesday (October 30, 2024). The lawsuit names Netflix, Top Hat Productions and several individuals involved in producing the docuseries.
Linda believed that The Manhattan Alien Abduction portrays her as a villain for purposes of controversy and conflict. She further feels that it defames her character and damages her reputation as an honest and decent person. As of Tuesday afternoon (October 29, 2024), Netflix had not yet responded to the lawsuit in court.
