Jammu: At least one terrorist was injured after an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Wednesday, official sources said. Based on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces earlier today launched a cordon and search operation to flush out terrorists hiding in the Assar area of the district.
The terrorists are believed to be hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt, the sources said. One of the terrorists might have got injured in a brief exchange of fire with the forces as blood stains were spotted in the area, they said. The encounter is presently underway.
Security forces have recovered one M4 carbine and three backpacks from the area, they said. The terrorists moved into these areas after security forces and police launched a joint search operation in the Akar forest near Patnitop belt of Udhampur district, the added, PTI reported.
Last month, an Army officer and three soldiers were killed during an encounter with terrorists in Doda district. The terror attack, the fifth in Jammu region in a month, sparked widespread outrage with political leaders including three former chief ministers expressing concern over the rise in terror incidents, especially in the Jammu region where militancy has returned after being wiped out over two decades ago.
The Doda encounter came nearly a week after five Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, were killed and five others were injured after heavily-armed terrorists ambushed a patrolling party in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
